Map of Monture Creek

Monture Creek is a pristine tributary of the Blackfoot River flowing from the Bob Marshall Wilderness through the Lolo National Forest near Seeley Lake. This freestone stream offers excellent fishing for native westslope cutthroat trout in a wilderness setting, with fish eagerly taking dry flies throughout summer. The creek is protected by artificial-lures-only regulations within 100 yards of its mouth to protect spawning fish. Upper reaches in the wilderness provide backcountry fishing opportunities for adventurous anglers, while the lower creek near Highway 200 is more accessible. The clear, cold water and diverse habitat of pools, riffles, and pocket water create ideal conditions for wild trout. Summer and early fall offer the best fishing, with attractor patterns and terrestrials being particularly effective. Monture Creek exemplifies the small-stream fishing experience that makes Montana special, with willing fish in beautiful surroundings and the chance to escape crowds found on larger rivers.
