Map of West Rosebud Creek

West Rosebud Creek flows from the Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness near Roscoe, designated as a blue-ribbon trout stream with populations of Yellowstone cutthroat, rainbow, brown, and brook trout. The creek originates near Grasshopper Glacier and flows through stunning alpine terrain before reaching the prairie near Fishtail. Upper mountain sections offer fast-paced fishing for smaller but willing cutthroat and brook trout in crystal-clear pocket water. The popular Mystic Lake Trail follows the creek into the wilderness, providing access to both stream and lake fishing opportunities. Lower sections through private land hold larger brown trout but have limited access at bridge crossings. Forest Service campgrounds at Pine Grove and Emerald Lake offer base camps for extended trips. The West Rosebud represents quintessential Montana mountain stream fishing with dramatic Beartooth scenery as a backdrop.
